There are around 1850 boat shed and beach bathing boxes around Port Phillip Bay, spread across many beaches, but nowhere are they more iconic than on Brighton Beach. They are the most accessible boxes from the city, just a short 20min train or tram ride from town and are a great example, since their owners keep them so well maintained.

I used to live just 5mins away, and would swim out and around the boating posts regularly, so I'm very familiar with the boxes there. Perhaps the most distinctive is the one painted blue with the Australian flag on its facade. But my favourite is the one with Hokusai's The Great Wave of Kanagawa' painted on the front. There's no limit to the designs and colour schemes of the boxes, so no two are exactly alike. Which of course is part of the charm...
