In April of 2021, I spent a few days on the Osa Peninsula in the south-west of Costa Rica. It takes some getting to, a few buses and usually a boat, so it does keep tourist numbers down to the most keen.

The peninsula is home to the incredible Corcovado National Park, a place National Geographic once described as one of the most biologocially intense areas on the planet. I stayed in Drake Bay for a couple of nights, and took a day trip into the park, involving a two hour boat ride in, about 4 hours with a guide and another two hour boat ride away again.

Sure enough the park did not disappoint, the jungle brimming with wildlife, tapirs, various monkeys, caymen, tarantula and countless birds. We climbed into the hollowed out trunk and even the root system of one of the jungle giants. It was a pretty magical experience, with great help from the passionate guide.
