Granada is the other significant colonial town in Nicaragua, Leon being the other. It's not short of a tourist dollar, the buildings and homes are colourful and well-kept for the most part, and for a small city of just 130,00, like Leon, it's punching above its weight with its very large cathedral.
There are several very well kept churches in Granada with distinctive facades, and with some of them, you can climb the bell-tower to view the town, which is well worth it in a place without multiple storeys. The centre of this drawing was inspired by a photo taken from one such bell-tower.
Unlike Leon, Granada is built beside water, the western end of Lake Nicaragua which means it has some cooler air. Its local volcano, Mombacho, is far more present too, literally sloping upward from towns edge...
