I visited Naxos in the Greek Islands with a friend in August of 2016, which was a lot like entry into food heaven. Naxos has so much going for it, a friendly climate, beautiful beaches, easy access to Athens and the other islands, so central is its location amongst the Cyclades group in the Aegean Sea. Quiet villages and mountains in the interior, culture, history... and a great space to swim in safety too, which we did on a daily basis.

The port town is also named Naxos, and is a charming huddle of white-washed homes and shops on a small hill with a modest castle on top. On a small headland a short walk from the village, are the ruins of Apollo's Temple, with only its famous, stone entrance still standing. It wasn't hard to gather imagery for this drawing, and clumsy though it is, it's an excellent diary of our experience on the great island.
