Rahba Kedima Souk is a busy market square bazaar in the middle of Marrakech, Morocco. It doesn't have a lot of space, which makes it feel all the busier when you're in the middle of a crowd there during the most active part of a day. In the heat, in the bustle. The ground is covered in the products of the various vendors, little mountains of specialty foods and spices, stacks of hats and piles of handicrafts, each awaiting astute and compulsive buyers alike.

Hanging from the buildings around the square are numerous, colourful carpets, hanging wherever there's space, and it's this that makes the market special to me. On one side of the square is the excellent Cafe Des Epices, which has an upper balcony that feels almost as if it were hanging out over the square. It's high enough to look out over the surrounding rooftops, a vantage point over the entire scene, but also a more peaceful remove from the busyness of it. It's from the cafe balcony that I've expanded the perspective for this drawing.
