Oh my goodness, Santorini. An old, sunken volcano captured by the Aegean Sea, only its upper rim a circular, habitable ridge… with a much younger volcano as an island in the middle. Massive white cruise ships sitting on the water within the caldera. Donkey's hauling goods and luggage up the steep stone stairwells from the water's edge to the tops of the ridges. Whitewashed and blue-domed buildings huddling on the upper ridge, maximising the view, becoming a part of the view. A fantastic place to watch the sunset, to share a romance, to be married... or to spend some $'s!
The day-walking on Santorini is outstanding and the lifestyle of Oía on the main island, jaw-dropping.
