Many of us don’t necessarily know exactly where they’re from… but just about all of us are familiar with the Scarlet Macaw. In a kingdom full of so many gorgeous, colourfully designed birds, they are royalty. I’m not gonna say they’re a common sight in Costa Rica, I was there almost a year before I saw my first. But in certain places, there's a good chance if you have the time and if you keep your head raised. Spot your first and you’re likely to see your second. Every time I saw a Macaw in the wild it was with a partner. I met one on an island in Panama too, that was pretty cantankerous and aggressive, no longer able to fly... and alone. But I figure, if I’d once lived a life in the air with a lover alongside… and lost that… I’d be pretty hard to live with too.
