Tasmanian Fungi, Australia

20cm (W) x 20cm (H)
Ink and Pencil on 200gsm acid-free paper

I guess fungi can be pretty amazing almost anywhere it comes up, but nowhere have I personally seen such a variety of colours and shapes, as on the Overland Track on the Central Plateau of Tasmania in autumn. Tiny little shrooms called Pixies Parasols, Strawberry Brackets like botox lips filling the little nooks and crannys of tree trunks, the edible Myrtle Orange like orbs from outer space, Green Hygrocybes, bright orange Carrot Sticks and the fantastic horror of the Stinkhorn, with its smell like rotting flesh. Not to mention the cartoon-like Fly Agaric Toadstool with its white-spotted red dome, which hasn't even been given a look in here. It can be chilly and damp up there, especially late in autumn... but if you have the right gear and time it well, you'll be in for a fine display.
