I'd been travelling in the Hawaiian islands and country hopping through Central America when Covid-19 struck and I settled into the Hostel Playa 506 near Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, in the hope of seeing out the crisis. My adventures were fresh in my mind, many of them involving volcanoes... but I was tired too, so I was glad to be stopped, at rest, to get to know a place more intimately with more time... and to be able to sit and start emptying the drawings from my head that was far too full.
So I chose a beach hut under the palms and coastal almonds of Playa Cocles, dragged a long cushion out with me almost every afternoon for perhaps 7 months, and I drew. I've always had a fascination with volcanoes, and with that said, this one probably doesn't need too much further explanation!
