Hmm. So I fell in love with this court in Puerto Viejo, because of its modesty and its reminder of what you would normally expect to find in Central America. A functional public space that needed lots of work, and that needed work actually happened while I was there.
During my stay, the court was resurfaced and given new rings, so this mandala is actually a timepiece of what was, with its concrete slowly returning to gravel and its wearing paint.
When they resurfaced, they simply overlaid the old with fresh concrete, which brought us just close enough so that I could dunk the basket. When finally the new rings came and were installed at regulation height, I was a little disappointed. I won’t lie.
